Kiwi MTB Collective - Europe Tour 2022

It looks like I have managed to get them to pack light but even then, we are still going to be looking at roughly 100kgs of excess baggage to pay for collectively.

At the end of March half of the international team made the journey to the Gold Coast for the weekend to race at Oceania’s. It was a great first trip with them and the first introduction back in to international travel for a few years for many. We only lost 2 tubes of toothpaste, a deodorant, and almost an allen key at security.

For me it was a good introduction to the team dynamic but I am now worried that I may not survive the trip to Europe after experiencing their cooking. I feel I am going to have my work cut out being house dad and turning these young adults into good cooks and tidy house mates – like I have chance of achieving that!

First Race:

After landing in Paris, we head to Altstadt, Germany for our first race and first Europe based World Cup over the weekend of 6 to 8 of May. This is a full World Cup with Junior series, U23 and Elites racing so the whole team will be in action. Most racing will be during the New Zealand night so have a look on Facebook and Instagram for updates over your breakfast.

Rider Change:

Ben Wilson from our Domestic squad is now coming to Europe for 2 months racing which is exciting. Josie Wilcox has joined the NZ Cycling team for 3 world cups with the hope of getting a spot at the Commonwealth Games later this year. As she was not going to be wearing the Talley’s kit and traveling with the team she has resigned her UCI spot to allow Ben to take her place in Europe (we are allowed a maximum of 10 riders on our UCI list).

Multimedia & Advertising:

The prospector got good media coverage for the team and riders with interviews, multiple social media posts and even covered by TV1 sport with some great shots of Cameron and Matt riding the trails. Oceania’s was covered well through social media in New Zealand and Australia. The video of Mia and Annabel with the anthem was viewed hundreds of times from our social media page and shared We have seen steady growth in our followers on social media and riders sharing content on their pages. Once the Europe campaign starts, I would expect to see a nice spike in followers as the full journey of training, racing, house life and sightseeing will make for a great engaging story.
